Before your student begins their first year at Northwest, you are encouraged to discuss the importance of being fiscally responsible. For example, your student may need to learn how to

• Budget money
• Write a check
• Use a debit card
• Balance a bank account
• Use a credit card responsibly
• Pay bills

Time Management

Talking to your student about time management may help them transition from high school to college. Scheduling time for studying, outside interests, and family obligations can help reduce stress and improve academic success. Encourage your student to use a planner or calendar to document important dates or family events. This also helps your student stay connected to what is happening back home.
